  • Understand the benefits and growing importance of VoIP and highlight the trends in VoIP and its applications.
  • Understand how VoIP works and factors that affect VoIP quality.
  • Understand the principles of speech compression and main parameters of speech codecs used in VoIP applications.
  • Understand VoIP most commonly used transport layer protocols.
  • Understand the current VoIP approaches and tools which are used in the real world for VoIP calls.
  • Understand the three most common types of VoIP signaling protocols.
  • Understand the user perceived experience for a provided service and the network quality of service.

Intended learning outcomes of the course (ILOs)
Understanding the fundamental techniques, which are behind the success of VoIP. These include speech compression, media transport protocols (RTP/RTCP), VoIP signalling protocols, QoS and QoE for voice calls.
